All undergraduate students are invited to apply to the UEFS.
Students are encouraged to learn more about the UEFS by talking to professors and student alumni. Usually information sessions are organized in November, January, and February where students can meet instructors and alumni to ask questions about the course. Watch for announcements in courses or via your email to find times and locations. Attendance at information sessions is not required for applying.
In past years, more students have applied than can be accommodated (28 students). Students should be prepared to make a strong case for themselves. While marks in previous, relevant coursework are considered, other evidence of aptitude for working with communities is also carefully considered. Applicants should have a copy of their transcript in-hand while applying (you will need to calculate your average and report specific courses that you have completed), and the name of one faculty referent (we will contact them only in some cases, so please just list a Sociology or Anthropology professor who is familiar with your academic work).
Deadline to apply is March 1, 2026 (noon).
2026 Application form will be available soon
Decisions regarding acceptance are made by committee in early-March. Students are notified whether they have been accepted or waitlisted by April 1st, at the latest.
